Carelink
Intelligent, energy-efficient location monitoring and tracking platform including wearable device and web application.
Purpose
The purpose of Carelink is to safely and positively manage wandering behaviour in people with dementia. Carers can track their loved one’s location, dynamically set safe zones and receive alerts. The application can determine behaviour that may be indicative of an imminent wandering event allowing early intervention and can predict location in the unlikely event of loss of communication.
Target group
People with Dementia, Informal Carers, Professional Carers.
Impact for citizen
Carelink enables safe independent living allowing wearers the ability to wander freely within known contexts. Positive interventions are enabled through detection of patterns that can indicate restlessness or anxiety.
Impact for staff
Carers can benefit from reduced stress by knowing that they can check their loved ones location easily and will receive alerts when warranted.
Economic impact (What kind of business case might be foreseen – for user, staff, healthcare provider, municipality etc). Carelink allows users to live independently for longer. Engaging in regular physical and social activity is important to maintaining good health. Independent living can reduce burden of healthcare costs on the public purse.
From a care perspective, the burden often falls on family members and they cannot be with the person with dementia every single minute of the day. They themselves must also look after their own health in order to continue providing care. There is increasing reliance on and need for technology to support caregivers and there is a willingness to purchase and acquire tools that will help keep loved ones safe and reduce stress.
